Community Spotlight:
Restoring our Waterways with Oysters
Nestled on Hutchinson Island, The Magic Oyster Bar & Seafood Grill is more than just a dining destination; it’s a cornerstone of our vibrant community.
Committed to our community, our waterways and local environment are very important to us, which is why we have actively participated in Florida Oceanographic Society’s past FLOOR Oyster Shell Recycling and Restoration program.
Oysters play a critical role in our ecosystem by helping to filter nutrients and particles from the water, provide food for marine animals, and even help reduce shoreline erosion. The 2021 & 2022 FLOOR Oyster Shell Recycling and Restoration program focused on restoring oyster reef habitat in the St. Lucie Estuary and Indian River Lagoon by using donated oyster shells as a foundation for new reef construction. New oysters attach themselves to these shells, continuing to grow the reef and enhancing water filtration. We donated used oyster shells both of these years in hopes of helping out waterways and our local community.
